It is hard for the general public to conclude about what is going on with our national flag carrier without knowing the facts. While there is a lot of evidence to suggest the situation is far from good, the results of the Luftansa audit and CAL’s audited financial statements should be made public. After all we the people are footing the bill and deserve to know if we are getting good value for money.

Help me here. Ms. Hernandez said there would be no firing or list of employees that would be fired yet we see ads for hiring am I to believe that Cayman Airways will be expanding or were they under staffed. The truth is a hard pill to swallow but more easily digested than a lie.

Help me out here – please post the article with the breaking news so we know what we are responding to.

Shum, the breaking news is on the homepage. Well i seem to be adding my 2 cents too much to this blog. I am sure that Sandra won’t mind a bit. CAL all you need is someone who is not going to look to see ‘how much I am going to make’ versus ‘what can i do to make this airline work.’ Find that person and CAL will sore above the clouds……

Well it’s time for a show down with the Forth Reich it seems. Some cleaning needs to be done no doubt but the paying public is entitled to fair and just info. Let’s hear Sandra back on the REAL NATIONAL AIRWAYS!!

You see the spread in the paper about change. Patsy is one of those staff that is the least to accept change – it is such a joke. I remember how badly they treated her when she blacked out and had to go to Baptist hospital. Cayman Airways is so desperate it is not even funny.

Question: How are flight attendants hired without a need for work permits? The end result is that they can stay here as free agents almost as good as ambassadors because they can have kids, live whatever lifestyle they want without being tracked!! Talk about the roll over – how will these people affected by the roll over if their time here is not even being monitored or they do not require a stamp in their passports?

    SANDRA-

ONE ONLY HAS TO LOOK AT PAGE 9 IN THE CLASSIFIEDS SECTION OF THE NET NEWS TO UNDERSTAND WHY CAYMAN AIRWAYS IS LOOSING MONEY. THE SALARIES ADVERTISED ARE GENEROUS IN THEMSELVES, BUT THE AD FAILS TO INCLUDE THE OTHER BENEFITS GIVEN (SUCH AS ACOMMODATIONS AT BRITANIA ESTATES, GRANDVIEW, AND GRAND HARBOUR; CARS; FREE TRAVEL; SCHOOL FEES FOR CHILDREN; “CORPORATE ” GOLD CREDIT CARDS; AND THE LIST GOES ON…).
THESE BENEFITS WERE GIVEN TO PAST EMPLOYEES, WHO ABUSED NOT ONLY THE PRIVILEGES GIVEN, BUT ALSO ABUSED THE OTHER CAYMANIAN EMPLOYEES AT THE SAME TIME. THIS HARDLY SEEMS FAIR TO OTHER HARD WORKING STAFF THAT CAN BARELY PAY THEIR BILLS AND “PICK SHIT WITH THE CHICKENS”……

These are the kind of abuses that need to be looked at closely at CAL and why they continue to be in the whole. Honestly, a lot of shaking up has to go on there and the mere fact that Sandra was willing to bring this issue to the forefront should say something. What is sad is why lie about the whole thing. If you have people in there who are abusing the systme and not doing their job then it’s time for them to be moved out of the organization and that is that – but be honest with us – we are tired of the lies that politicians and board members are always telling. Like your email said, the naked truth is better than a well dressed lie!!

I would have to agree with Diane’s comments – if the audit shows the abuse of these benefits and the fact that they have such benefits no wonder they have more expats hired from Pilots right down to the bag handler – if I was an expat I would most definitly want to have this kind of job because you wouldn’t even get that were you would be coming from. The hurtful part about this whole matter is that a lot of injustice went on for too long that the public will never know – from qualified Caymanian Pilots who has being applying to for a pilot position for 17 years with the credentials required and can’t get a position because an expat is hired in the position and given the various benefits as described above by “The Detective”, and from not wanting to hire women as Pilots, and hiring Pilots who don’t have the prescribed flight hours log to fly a 727 and can’t pass the Pilot’s exam that CAL send them to Houston to do. When management regardless if they are Caymanian have been in the position for too long they too get complacent and need rolling over. So with the clean up if that is what it is being referred to that is being done with CAL, the biggest mistake they are making to date is putting Tom Guyton as acting CEO because he never knew how to manage Island Air when he was in charge of that Airline. Beside he is a pilot and what CAL needs is good business adminstrative minded person – there is a difference!!

It hope they get it right because CAL is an asset to these islands.

Good job Sandra! Expose them. What’s up with the HSA though? DO you know that Senior managers there are resigning as well-especially from the HR and Finance section. It’s all over the recent pay increase and correction of inequities. Seems that the Board-being the dictators that they are took over the show AGAIN….only to ruin it AGAIN! The inequities have worsened! People are furious and demanding answers. The major problem that they complain about is that the Chairman of the board is also a “Christian Pastor”….with the lies and conceit and just plain ol’ politics involved. The board should be dismissed when CEO Brown was. This board seems to be a poor example of Christian behavior and even common sense…though it’s really not common.

As for Cay-Air. Anything and everything that Gov’t attempts to set free, yet dictate to seems to crumble. Why act surpised?

Just because one sits in a Chairman’s seat doesn’t make him/her any more of a chairman than me standing in my garage makes you a car! VROOM VROOM! HAHAHAHA

It seems Cayman Airlines will be going bankrupt as all the other CARICOM States Airlines. Who knows maybe they will join the Liat group.
Why does Cayman even needs an airline, why not use Air Jamaica or Caribbean Airlines(Trinidad)?\
If this does not happen, money will continue to leak from Cayman which should be going to people of Cayman.

  • Fed-Up // December 4, 2006 at 9:39 am

I agree with Perri 100%. People are furious and demanding answers and worst now that government got 8% pay rise. What the trying to do with the nurses, doctors, janitors, lab techs and more…THAT HOSPITAL IS A MESS!!
You are not hearing anything about the hospital staff getting a pay rise.We asked, are you proud or ashamed of the government??
I feel really sorry for my friends back home. They work so hard and don’t get rewarded for it, but here you are seen as a professional and paid a professional salary.
    Thanks Sandra

  • Perri // December 4, 2006 at 9:21 pm

    Sandra,
Please for the sake of the people at the hospital….look into whats happening…why are thee more inequities now than before…and why does this Pastor Lie and cheat like…sorry a Politician?
Damn!!!!!!!!!! I’m begining to hate my own Country.

What does everyone out there think of Unions? Sandra?

    Dr. Perri

  • Maureen Scott // December 8, 2006 at 8:39 am

    Sandra,
We need you to start A.S.A.P. on your new show because the general public needs you back over the air. Perri seems to be a very intelligent individual. He should be thinking of running for the House along with you. We have so much young intelligent individuals here in Cayman, that it should be brought to the attention of the islands, because these young people are not afraid to speak their minds, and this is what we need here on the islands.
